Job Description

Company Profile:

A well-established plastic injection moulding manufacturer delivering high-precision components for diverse industrial applications. Known for its strong tool room capabilities and commitment to precision engineering, the organization serves clients across multiple industrial sectors with a focus on quality, consistency, and on-time delivery.

Position Overview:

The Die Maker will play a critical role in the organization’s tool room operations, responsible for manufacturing, assembling, and maintaining press tools/dies used in the production of precision stamped and formed components. This position directly impacts product quality, press uptime, and manufacturing efficiency by ensuring dies are built, fitted, and maintained to exact engineering tolerances. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on tool room expertise, strong diagnostic ability for die-related defects, and a solid understanding of tool steel behavior and heat treatment — contributing to minimal downtime and consistently accurate part quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manufacture, assemble, fit, and maintain press tools/dies (cutting, stamping, and forming dies) as per engineering drawings and specifications
  • Perform precision fitting, grinding, drilling, milling, and other tool room operations to build and finish die components
  • Identify and rectify die-related defects such as burrs, dimensional deviation, misalignment, and wear on cutting/forming edges
  • Conduct press trials, modifications, and corrective actions to ensure accurate shape, size, and quality of components
  • Inspect die components and stamped parts using precision measuring instruments to maintain dimensional accuracy and tolerances

Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding of press tool/die construction — cutting, piercing, bending, blanking, and forming principles
  • Proficiency in bench fitting, grinding, drilling, milling, lathe work, and conventional tool room machining
  • Familiarity with MS Excel for maintenance records; exposure to CAD/CAM software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Pro-E) is a plus
  • Proficient in precision measuring instruments — Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauges, Dial Gauges, Bore Gauges, and Slip Gauges

Special Parameters:

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve die-related defects (burr, camber, shear marks, wrinkling) with timely repair/reconditioning to minimize press downtime
  • Hands-on proficiency in surface grinding, wire-cut EDM, CNC/VMC, and manual fitting for tight-tolerance die components
  • Working knowledge of tool steel grades (D2, D3, HCHCr) and basic heat treatment principles for punch/die inserts
