Job Description
Company Profile:
A reputed turnkey industrial engineering and fabrication company based at Ambernath MIDC, Thane, with proven project execution capabilities across heavy fabrication and structural steel segments. The organisation delivers comprehensive engineering solutions to clients across industrial and infrastructure sectors, with an unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and regulatory compliance at every stage of project delivery.
Position Overview:
The Quality Engineer will own and drive the QA/QC function across all heavy fabrication and structural steel activities. The role requires deep technical expertise in welding qualification, NDT methodologies, and international fabrication codes — combined with strong coordination skills to manage client inspections, third-party agencies, and internal quality documentation. The incumbent will be the single point of accountability for quality compliance on the shop floor and at project sites.
Qualifications:
- Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution
- NDT Level-II certification — preferred and will be a decisive advantage in selection
- Sound working knowledge of international codes and standards — ISO, AWS, ASME
- Demonstrated experience in QA/QC documentation, ITP preparation, and audit management
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement, monitor, and sustain QA/QC procedures across all heavy fabrication and structural steel works — shop floor and project sites
- Review and approve fabrication drawings, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and all associated quality documents prior to execution
- Prepare, qualify, and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ)
- Ensure all welding operations are executed in strict compliance with approved WPS and applicable international codes
- Plan, coordinate, and review all NDT activities — Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), and Radiographic Testing (RT)
- Coordinate with third-party inspection agencies and client representatives across all stages of project inspection
- Maintain complete documentation, traceability records, and audit trails for all materials, welds, and inspection activities
- Handle client inspections, quality audits, and drive timely resolution and formal closure of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
- Ensure full and ongoing compliance with safety standards, quality norms, and statutory requirements across all fabrication operations
Skills Required:
- Strong hands-on experience in heavy fabrication and structural steel project environments — shop floor and site-based
- In-depth knowledge of welding processes — SMAW, MIG/MAG, and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)
- Demonstrated ability to independently prepare, qualify, and maintain WPS, PQR, and WPQ documentation
- Working knowledge of international standards and codes — ISO, AWS, and ASME (preferred)
- Well-versed with NDT methods; NDT Level-II certification will be a significant advantage
- Strong ability to independently manage client inspections, quality documentation, and third-party audit processes
Special Requirements:
- NDT Level-II certification is preferred and will be a key differentiator in the selection process
- Candidates must have prior hands-on experience in heavy fabrication or structural steel project environments — mandatory
- Must be capable of independently handling client inspections, third-party coordination, and NCR closure without supervision
- Candidate must be willing to work at Ambernath MIDC and comply with all shop floor safety and quality protocols
